POSTPONED: Teen Writers' Workshop

Event date:
04/08/2020 - 4:30pm

Last fall, Wellesley Books kicked off a monthly fiction workshop for young writers aged 14 to 18. This is a drop-in, 90-minute workshop at Wellesley Books where young writers will form a local writing community and develop life-long writing habits.

The workshop will run from September to June. During the first five workshops, the sessions will focus on reading and analyzing short stories, developing individual writing voices and pushing personal boundaries by learning new writing skills. Together, we will learn to build the pieces of a complete short story.

The second half of the year, the group will submit a draft of a completed short story and, together, will learn how to constructively criticize peers’ work, edit, and re-draft the short story. At the end of the workshop, Wellesley Books will host a public reading for all who wish to participate.

The cost for attending this workshop will be:
$28 materials fee
$25 ticket per workshop
If you would like to attend all 10 workshops, we offer a full year fee of $230 (includes the materials fee).

Workshop instructor Cassie Duncanson has taught creative writing at Portland State University in Oregon and at the Juniper Institute for Young Writers in Amherst. She is also an avid reader of YA fiction.

If you would like to participate, or you know a teenager who might be interested, please contact Cassie at cassie@wellesleybooks.com.
