ASSISTANT MANAGER

This position plays a key role in the overall operation of our store, ensuring a wonderful experience for our customers both in the store and on our website, and provides operational support to the Store Manager and the rest of the store leadership team.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Weekly and daily scheduling.
  • Assigning sales floor tasks and supervising booksellers.
  • Overseeing the online orders team.
  • Training new booksellers and providing ongoing coaching.
  • Ordering store supplies.
  • Completing daily sales reconciliations and preparing weekly sales reporting.
  • Supporting the store’s events, school, and outreach programs.
  • Assisting with store buying and receiving/shipping as needed.
  • Other projects as required.

 

The role of Assistant Manager requires:

  • Extensive knowledge of books across a wide range of subjects, including both children’s books and books for adults.
  • Top-notch professionalism, including excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and diplomacy skills, resourcefulness, and creativity.
  • Organizational and time-management skills, and facility with spreadsheets
  • Flexibility to work a varying schedule that includes nights and weekends.
  • This position also involves standing, stairs, and occasional lifting, up to 30 lbs.

 

We offer vacation and medical/dental benefits for this full-time position (37-40 hours per week).

 

EVENTS COORDINATOR

The Events Coordinator is responsible for running an exciting and varied author events program for our community. This part-time position works an average of 20 hours per week, which varies according to the events schedule to include some weekends, and includes bookseller shifts during the holidays.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Taking a leading role in nurturing the store’s relationships with publishers, authors, presenters, media, and community organizations.
  • Scheduling a variety of events, ranging from in-store readings to off-site author appearances with large audiences.
  • Working with the store’s Marketing Coordinator to ensure our press kit and event-related promotional materials convey a cohesive and compelling message.
  • Creating partnership opportunities for sales at outside events being sponsored by other local organizations.
  • Making sure all events run smoothly, from initial setup to final takedown (must be comfortable hosting).
  • Ensuring the overall profitability of our events program.

CHILDREN'S EVENTS COORDINATOR

The Children's Events Coordinator is responsible for generating an exciting schedule of events catered to our young readers, middle grade students, and teens. This part-time position works a 15-20 hour per week schedule, which varies according to the events schedule to include some weekends, and also includes bookseller shifts during the holidays.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Working with publishers, authors, and local schools to schedule and host a full slate of author visits, providing all back-end sales and logistical support.
  • Scheduling events ranging from story times to full-scale author presentations, including off-site events for major authors.
  • Contributing to the store’s promotional efforts, including e-newsletter placement, social media, and in-store signage.

 

The role of School and Children’s Events Coordinator requires:

  • Extensive knowledge of children’s books for all ages, ranging from classics to currently popular authors and genres.
  • Top-notch professionalism, including excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and diplomacy skills.
  • Resourcefulness and creativity.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • This position also involves standing, stairs, and occasional lifting, up to 30 lbs.

 

SCHOOL LIAISON

This position is our primary point of contact with the community of educators and school administrators in our market area and is responsible for all sales to schools and PTOs, including book fairs. This part-time position works a 20-25 hour-per-week Monday through Friday daytime schedule, including up to 10 hours as a bookseller during non-peak school periods.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Building and nurturing relationships with local school districts as well as private schools in our market area.
  • Processing quote requests, purchase orders, and sales transactions in a timely manner.
  • Partnering with schools and their PTOs to run successful book fairs, both in-school and in-store (as well as online).
  • Acting as a resource for title recommendations, through a combination of in-school presentations, targeted e-mail communication, and in-store availability for consultation.

 

The role of School Liaison requires:

  • Extensive knowledge of children’s books for all ages, ranging from classics to currently popular authors and genres.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current trends in children’s book publishing.
  • Top-notch professionalism, including excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and diplomacy skills, resourcefulness, and creativity.
  • Organizational skills, time-management skills, and facility with spreadsheets.
  • This position also involves standing, stairs, and occasional lifting, up to 30 lbs.
