Author Event: Poetry Reading with Catherine Marenghi and Charles Coe

April is National Poetry Month and Wellesley Books will be hosting events throughout the month! First up we have poets Catherine Marenghi (Unfurled) and Charles Coe (Purgatory Road).

This is a free event but we request that you RSVP. You can do so with the link below (no fees) or by calling us at 781-431-1160 during store hours (also no fees). 

You can add a purchase of the author's book onto your RSVP. Copies will also be available for purchase at the event. Please note that you must purchase your copy of the book from Wellesley Books in order to have the author sign it at the event. 

If you are unable to attend the event but would still like to buy the book, you can do so by scrolling down. Just remember that buying the book is not the same as an RSVP.

ABOUT CHARLES COE

Charles Coe is the author of four books of poetry: All Sins Forgiven: Poems for my Parents, Picnic on the Moon, Memento Mori, and Purgatory Road, all published by Leapfrog Press. Charles Coe: New and Selected Works will be published by Leapfrog in the summer of 2024. He is also author of 2014’s Spin Cycles, a novella published by Gemma Media that tells the story of a homeless man surviving on the streets of Boston. 

Charles was a 2017 artist-in-residence for the city of Boston, where he created an oral history project focused on residents of Mission Hill. He has been chosen as a “Literary Light” by the Associates of the Boston Public Library. He is an adjunct professor of English at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, and at Bay Path University, in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, where he teaches in both MFA writing programs. He serves on the Steering Committee of the Boston Chapter of the National Writers Union, a labor union that serves freelance writers.

Catherine Marenghi is an award-winning poet, novelist, and memoirist. Her works include Our Good Name, a historical novel inspired by her Italian immigrant ancestors, and Glad Farm: A Memoir, about growing up in stark poverty; President Jimmy Carter called it “inspiring.” Her poetry books are Breaking Bread: Poems and her newest book Unfurled: Love Poems.

Catherine writes with a profound sense of place and a fascination with the power of house, home, and family bonds. Her poetry has won numerous awards, including two Academy of American Poets prizes, and has appeared in literary journals in the U.S. and internationally.

The granddaughter of immigrants, Catherine was born and raised in Milford, Massachusetts, a town where she has deep roots and a lifelong connection. She is an active member of the vibrant literary community of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she has served on the board of the San Miguel Poetry Cafe and, with poet Judyth Hill, co-founded the Poetry Mesa, an international community serving poets and poetry.

She divides her time between Mexico and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
